How to Stay Motivated When Working From Home

Coronavirus has forced people all over the world to suddenly adjust to a new normal. And working from home is not always easy — when you are in your home environment, it can be difficult to get yourself ready and motivated to actually do your work. Here are a few ideas on how to stay motivated when you just want to stay in bed:

As everyone gets better acquainted with working from home for the next few weeks, these few tips will help you maximize your productivity.

  • Set an Alarm and Get Ready: Get up and go in the morning. Start your day with a routine and do the things that you would normally do if you were actually going into the office. You might be surprised how much an outfit change and shower can affect your productivity.
  • Create an Ideal Work Environment: Make your workspace as organized and comfortable as you can. If you designate one space in your home as your workspace, it will be easier to separate your work from your home.
  • Limit Your Social Media Time: Keep your mornings productive by limiting your social media use before noon. Social media can be one of the biggest distractions, so set a boundary for yourself and stick to it.
  • Make Zoom your New Best Friend: As most people now know, Zoom is one of the easiest ways to communicate with your team if you are all in separate places. It’s basically like you’re all in the same room!
  • Take Scheduled Breaks: Give yourself a few times during the day to take a break from your work. Make these breaks away from your computer. Set timers on your phone — we prefer 30-minute or hour-long increments — and once the timer goes off, give yourself a few minutes to check new notifications.
  • Do Not Disturb: Turn on your ‘Do Not Disturb’ function, or put your phone in a different room to keep your attention on the task-at-hand. Eliminating external distractions will increase your productivity immensely.
  • Treat Yourself! Once you’re done with your work for the day, give yourself an exciting adventure or treat to look forward to. If you have something to look forward to, it makes the day go by a little bit faster.
