Don’t be Scripted, Be Organized

How not to be scripted on video and in presentations.

Have you ever found yourself preparing for a presentation, video recording or important phone call, writing down everything you want to say? Leading to a very unnatural attempt at rereading all that you have written down. This is what we call being scripted and what not to do if you want anyone to listen to what you have to say. With that being said we are going to walk you through how to feel comfortable and confident enough to leave that scripted paper behind and still share your organized thoughts.

Killing the Script

This is the safety net you are used to having in front of you at all times. Unfortunately, it sounds like it too. Especially if you are a customer service rep or going live on a video. Think of it this way, your customers and your prospects don’t have scripts in front of them when they have questions. Furthermore, prospects hate scripts. They easily recognize when you are using a scripted response and it puts them instantly on edge. So let’s let go of the scripts and work on a more natural, personalized method of sharing information. Think of speaking with a friend, you don’t have to think about every word you are going to say to them. But you do have an idea of what you want to say in the heat of the conversation. Therefore, consider taking this approach when preparing for a presentation or video. Before you know it, you will have words flying off your tongue like you’re the expert!

Embracing Organization

Now that we have tossed the scripted language, we can talk about organized thoughts. There is a way to be organized, not talk off topic, and not be scripted all at the same time! Amazing, we know. So rather than writing out everything you want to say, we recommend you keep some bullet points handy to reference, not read off of. Once you are able to organize your thoughts and know what points you want to hit, you’re ready to share! With a combination of organized topics and a natural non scripted approach, the quality of expertise and service you provide to your customers and prospects increases significantly. You create a more human feel behind your business, and that is going to attract more customers.

Now if you are not sure how to make these changes on your own, reach out to our team of Digital Storytelling experts! It’s what we’re here for, helping you tell your story.
