Being an Entrepreneur is Not All Rainbows and Unicorns

What does it take to become a successful entrepreneur? Well, we can tell you, it doesn’t happen overnight, that’s for sure. Entrepreneurs work tirelessly to build their businesses and brands up to where they stand today. Most successful entrepreneurs have failed and had to start over or take another route to create their future. This lifestyle is not for your average 9-5er, thinking that working 40 hours a week is going to get you the money or moreso, to the top. No, this is for your go-getter’s, strong willed, persistent and hard working entrepreneurs. The challenges this unique group of individuals face day in and day out of their lifestyle are significant but the pay-off is worth it at the end of the day.

Speaking of challenges, we are going to share with you the pro’s and con’s of becoming an entrepreneur. Let’s start with what’s good…

5 Pros of being an Entrepreneur

  • Flexible schedule- You make your schedule but remember, the more work you put in, the more you will get out.
  • Know it all- As an entrepreneur, you need to know the ins and outs of your company and be well versed in multiple assets within your company.
  • Rake in your own doe- You dont have to wait for the bonus to payout or for someone else to give you a raise.
  • It’s all on you…
  • Having fun yet? Well, you sure should be! Don’t let the whirlwind experience get to you, building a business and/or brand from the ground up is exciting! The reward is worth it in the end.

Now we will explore some of the cons to becoming an entrepreneur. Because like we said before, it’s not all rainbows and unicorns.

5 cons of being an entrepreneur

  • You are going to wear multiple hats- You don’t just get to be the owner, you are the CEO, head of marketing, accounting, design and secretary. Seems easy right?
  • Working to live or living to work?- You get to live to work for a bit. This isn’t your average 9-5 and call it quits at the end of the day. This is the hustle where you keep working until the wee hours of the night.
  • Work-life balance- With those hours it can be very tricky to incorporate a separation between work and life outside of work.
  • Paychecks may not be regular- Your pay is related to how well your business is doing. If the business isn’t making money, well neither are you!
  • Stressed yet?- This entrepreneur lifestyle will bring you a whole new level of feeling stressed out! You’re Not only responsible for an employee, you are responsible for every single decision made.

We highly recommend you take both the pros and the cons and truly weigh them before jumping into the decision to own your own business too quickly. Remember, it’s going to take a lot of work, but with the proper support, sweat and right  attitude, you can create a successful business that will take off one day! Just look at all of the entrepreneurs winning awards for the years of hard work and dedication to building their businesses and brands.
